Lawless movie review

Based on the novel of the same name by Nicci French , it introduces several substantial changes to the story and focuses heavily on the intense sexual relationship between the two lead characters.

Killing Me Softly

Adapted by Kara Lindstrom from the steamy potboiler by Nicci French the combined pseudonym of husband-and-wife journalist team Nicci Gerrard and Sean French , the London-set film trades the original British femme protagonist for American Web designer Alice Heather Graham , an Indiana flatlander who falls hard for rugged mountaineer Adam Joseph Fiennes. Alice and Adam first lock eyes at a traffic light, and within hours are locking thighs in some stripped and sweaty action. Feted in the media as a hero for a daring high-altitude rescue, Adam brings the same passion and intensity to the relationship that he does to mountain climbing, prompting Alice to ditch her dullish lover Jason Hughes and move in with the relative stranger. Ignoring the ominous silent phone calls and unsigned warning letters, Alice agrees to marry Adam in an unintentionally amusing scene where he intervenes during an attempted mugging, viciously beating the man to a pulp and then proposing to her with a blood-smeared kiss. There, he slings her up in a cloth noose for some strangulation-copulation fun, demanding her total submission. Coming down off her carnal cloud back in London, Alice starts to realize how little she knows about her controlling husband aside from the fact that his previous fiancee died in a mountain climbing accident in which he was involved.

It's not been a good year for Roberta Flack. No sooner has Hugh Grant butchered "Killing Me Softly" in " About a Boy " than the same song provides the title for this laughably awful romantic thriller. And flack is exactly what Chinese director Chen Kaige will receive for making this, his first English language feature. One moment their fingers are brushing as they both reach for the same pedestrian crossing button; the next they're ripping off each other's clothes for an afternoon of steamy rumpy-pumpy. But once the pair are married Alice Tallis doh!

Mar 25, Killing Me Softly. Critics Consensus. Respected director Chen Kaige's first English-language film is a spectacularly misguided erotic thriller.

Bush to run frequently in the background. The facile point, I think, is that organized crime in America is troubled, just like the rest of the economy with a business slowdown and a growing recession. A genial guy named Markie Trattman Ray Liotta operates high-stakes poker games for the mob. One night the game is hit by two hooded stick-up men, who make off with a big pile of mob money. This in itself is suspicious, because it looks like an inside job: What outsider, even knowing about the secret game, would be crazy enough to steal from the mob?

Culture Film. Killing Me Softly Gaby Wood Sunday 23 June The Observer Killing Me Softly, the book by Nicci French on which Chen Kaige's first English-language film is based, is a thriller about a woman in a long-term relationship who meets a stranger in the street and falls first in lust and then in love with him. It's about the passion and tenderness in violence, about what you have to lose, and about living with simultaneous and opposite certainties. The film, on the other hand, is about a woman Heather Graham who leaves one bore and falls for another. The second of these Joseph Fiennes, a one-trick actor playing Shakespeare again is not a rootless hero as in the book, but an eligible bachelor who might be found in the pages of Tatler, and who, when required to chase a criminal, breaks into a running style he could only have been taught by a mechanical monkey on speed.

It's so unintentionally funny, and silly and stupid and pointless, that I'm sure people in the near future will look back at this as camp. The film stars Heather Graham and Joseph Fiennes.
