This cat is considered one that is very trendy, very in style and very vogue. All we want to do is make sure you know what to expect from this breed so that you make an informed decision. This is precisely the reason that so many cats are dumped at shelters and found wandering around without a home, food to eat or care. The simple fact of the matter is that animals bred specifically for dwarfism cannot do all the things that other animals can do.

The Munchkin cat or Sausage cat is a newer breed of cat characterized by its very short legs , which are caused by a genetic mutation. Much controversy erupted over the breed when it was recognized by The International Cat Association TICA in with critics voicing concern over potential health and mobility issues.
The Munchkin cat has no problem getting around the same as its longer-limbed feline friends — it just might take them a few extra steps along the way. For their part, Munchkins, oblivious to the controversy surrounding them, go on being just what they are—cats—self-assured and outgoing. Friendly and people-oriented, Munchkins make devoted companions, and they get along well with other cats, dogs, and people. Nor do their feline companions treat them as members of the vertically challenged. Fanciers assert Munchkins can do anything an ordinary cat can do, except leap to the top of the kitchen counter.
With its short little legs and low-slung torso, some people view the Munchkin cat as the feline version of a Dachshund. Here are seven facts about the stubby-limbed kitty. Like many unusual cat types the Cornish Rex and the Manx , to name a few , the Munchkin breed arose from a spontaneous genetic mutation. A cat only needs one copy of the gene to inherit short legs and to pass the trait along to its kittens. One warning to breeders: The Munchkin gene is sometimes referred to as the "lethal" gene because if a Munchkin cat embryo receives one of these genes from each parent, it won't survive. That's why breeders don't mate two short-legged Munchkin cats together.
