Beowulf a tale of blood heat and ashes
Beowulf: A Tale of Blood, Heat, and Ashes by Nicky RavenThe exhilarating epic blazes to life — featuring illustrations by a lead artist on the LORD OF THE RINGS film trilogy.
Look into the flames and let your minds empty. . . . For this is a tale of blood and heat and ashes.
It is a tale that has been retold countless times through the centuries — and here, in an enthralling edition illustrated by a noted Tolkien artist, the mighty Beowulf is well set to capture new legions of followers. This contemporary retelling of the ancient epic — narrated with a touch of banter by the faithful Wiglaf and featuring vividly dramatic illustrations — follows the mythic hero from his disarming of the gruesome Grendel to his sword battle with the monster’s sea hag mother to his final, fiery showdown with an avenging dragon.
Beowulf – A Tale of Blood, Heat and Ashes – Illustrated Edition by John Howe
The story of Beowulf has been retold by many editions and translations throughout the world. This edition however, published in the United States back in has left a lasting impression on me. The book is around 70 pages long, plus a few more pages for extras, and is printed in hardback format with a beautiful dust jacket design. I was browsing online sites for new books to add my growing collection of first editions, and was looking for something illustrated. I came across this and the cover drew me in instantly. I immediately ordered it, and knowing little about John Howe as an illustrator, I had high hopes for the rest of the book. The first couple of pages are dedicated to the history of the original poem of Beowulf.
