When I was 13 years old 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite movie. I think I saw it in the theater at least 3x. I loved it! This movie was the first time I ever saw Heath Ledger and it was love at first sight. I was also still nursing my crush on Andrew Keegan(what ever happened to him) and I thought Julia Stiles was the coolest. Im tempted to rewatch the movie but I fear I wont enjoy it as much as an adult.
If Im being honest this book is probably a 2 star read but my nostalgia for the movie caused me to up the rating. 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of William Shakespeares The Taming Of The Shrew. Bianca the most popular sophomore at Padua High wants to date but cant until her older sister Kat does and Kat has no interest in dating or parties. So Cameron one of the 2 boys vying for Bianca comes up with a plan to get Kat to go out with school bad boy Patrick.
Despite the condensed and rushed nature of the book it did make me want to watch the movie again. If for no other reason than to see a young Heath Ledger.

Among the crop of recent teen-age movies whose plots parody stories from classic literature, ''10 Things I Hate About You,'' a high-school ''Taming of the Shrew,'' tries the hardest of any to season its screenplay with authentic Shakespearean touches. Students in a writing class at Padua High School somewhere around Seattle are asked to create sonnets. There is an Elizabethan-theme prom that inspires some fancy hairdos and fetching costumes. And every now and then the banter among the characters incorporates actual Shakespearean quotations. If it's all very clever for a teen-age film, it also feels terribly forced. One of the many delightful things about ''Clueless,'' the movie that started it all, was a glove-smooth fit of Jane Austen's ''Emma'' on a teen-age comedy of manners. You barely sensed Austen's presence.
