Nowhere To Run (Joe Pickett, #10) by C.J. BoxJoe Picketts in his last week as the temporary game warden in the town of Baggs, Wyoming, but there have been strange things going on in the mountains, and his conscience wont let him leave without checking them out: reports of camps looted, tents slashed, elk butchered. And then theres the runner who simply vanished one day. Joe doesnt mind admitting that the farther he rides, the more he wishes he could just turn around and go home. And he is right to be concerned. Because what awaits him is like nothing hes ever dealt with, like something out of an old story, except this is all too real and too deadly. When hed first saddled up, hed thought of this as his last patrol. What he hadnt known was just how accurate that thought might turn out to be.
Nowhere to Run
His last task before he returns to MaryBeth and his daughters is to check out some disturbing reports of vandalism from the mountain wilderness. In the first section of the book, Joe scouts the countryside with his two horses, eventually coming across two brothers who are living wild off the land. Their encounter is not a friendly one, but Joe escapes to a remote cabin whose inhabitant, a woman, provides him with brief protection.

Thank you! Something is wrong in the Sierra Madre. Two years after Olympic track hopeful Diane Shober disappeared while she was training in the high altitude, locals like fisherman Dave Farkus still whisper about the place. When he goes to investigate, Joe runs afoul of the Grim brothers. Ticketed for fishing without a license, Caleb Grimmengruber warns Joe to drop the matter and ride off.
