Now that this play about a young nun accused of murdering her baby has closed in New York, other theaters have been able to acquire the production rights, which is why a plethora of ''Agnes of Gods'' have recently appeared. The most recent production is at the Studio Theater in Lindenhurst, through Jan. The director, Roy F. Siegel, has shaped the Pielmeier drama so that the weaknesses inherent in the script are smoothed over and the play's strengths are as fully realized as in the original Broadway production. Agnes claims no memory or knowledge of the event, her Mother Superior, Mother Miriam Ruth, insists that Agnes does not understand what happened. Martha Livingstone, the court- appointed psychiatrist, wants to discover the truth of the matter hidden behind Agnes's veiled and cloistered mind. A psychological war ensues between Dr.
Agnes of God is a play by American playwright John Pielmeier which tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the child was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist and the mother superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation. The stage play concerns three main characters: Martha, the psychiatrist ; the Mother Superior ; and Agnes, the novice. There are no other characters on stage. All three roles are considered demanding for the actors playing them.
