I first heard about Kayla Itsines through Instagram, where she has a whopping 6.9 million followers and a ton of hashtags for her #BBGprogram. It is all pretty inspiring, seeing all of these before & after photos of her clients and I love that she is Greek and posts about her yiayia.

I read this as an e-book but I feel like getting this in print would be so much nicer! There are some very awkward cuts (photos and words cut off half way and placed on the next page etc.) and I bet the photos look so much nicer in person.

Overall I think this is a very positive and well-researched book. Itsines is all about a balanced approach to fitness/nutrition as well as listening and loving your body. This may seem hypocritical coming from someone who makes money off weight loss targeted to women generally under 30, but I get the sense that Kayla Itsines is genuine and wholeheartedly wants women to be happier and healthier. With obesity on the rise, I dont think there is anything wrong with promoting a proper fitness/nutrition lifestyle.

Although I believe this is much better suited for a beginner in the fitness/nutrition world, I still enjoyed it. For example Itsines goes into detail about the difference between LISS and HIIT-intense workouts, as well as what macros are, what protein, carbs, and fats are etc...which is all a bit too beginner for me and I had to skip a lot of the intro pages. The information is all quite good and I think it would be an amazing book for anyone just starting to get into fitness/nutrition but it isnt necessarily for me.

The only part of the book that I completely disagreed with was in the Becoming healthy, strong & confident Chapter. Itsines states that counting calories can cause us to be lost, confused and make mistakes. As someone who has lost 20 lbs (9 kgs) using only calorie counting, I dont agree with what she said at all. She goes on to state that this is typically the sort of nutrition profiling that an elite athlete would use, but I dont believe that it is mandatory in order for everyone to maintain good health. Again, I lost weight and have maintained for over a year now and I am about as far from an elite athlete as a person can be. I understand that for some people they just dislike calorie counting or become obsessed with it but I would not outright dismiss it.

The most interesting thing is Itsines says this but then a few chapters later under the How does energy intake influence our weight Kayla goes into great detail describing how calorie counting and CICO works! I think she was trying to be safe and not outright say she believes in calorie counting because some people go crazy over it, but she realised that you just cannot beat the science of CICO...its just thermodynamics!

If you are just beginning your fitness/nutrition or are interested in her recipes then I would definitely check this out.

What Are BBG Workouts Like?

I love having a plan. The same goes for planning your workouts. I loved bootcamp as it was on every Monday, Wednsday and Friday at 7pm. I turned up, did what I was told for an hour and was exhausted going home and love it. Going to the gym alone I find it hard to come up with a workout and would be too shy to bust out some burpees in the middle of the gym by myself. I was talking to a few girls from my class and asking them what they do and found out they feel the same but would love to go and do some circuits as a group. We got talking about what workouts we wanted to do and found that a few of us either had done, or owned the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guides read my review of them here so we figured this would be perfect.

As the new year approached I was contemplating what I wanted to do. Within a couple of hours there was quite a conversation going about all of us doing it together and a Facebook group was created. I purchased the app which there are a few choice. The Dave Ramsey in me said… whole year it is! Last week was my first week at it and here are my thoughts so far….

I've been doing CrossFit for 21 months now, but scrolling through Instagram and seeing amazing mind and body transformations from women following Kayla Itsines's BBG program totally inspired me to give it a try. I stopped going to CrossFit for one week, signed up for the one-week free trial on the app Sweat With Kayla , and decided to see what these workouts were really like and how they compared to CrossFit. I chose to do Week 1 of her basic BBG program, which has three workouts: one for legs, one for arms and abs, and one for full body. She recommends doing three to four of her workouts each week, and the other days doing LISS cardio , which stands for low-intensity sustained state. I chose walking in the woods for 30 to 45 minutes. Here's how I broke down the week based on what I could fit in my schedule:. Aside from using the app, I also found printouts of her workouts on Pinterest and used them in conjunction with the YouTube videos I found of BBGers videotaping themselves doing the workouts click on the links above to see the videos.

I am no stranger to working out.

It is called legs and cardio for a reason, my heart rate sky rockets every time and my legs are left very very sore and shaky. This workout pushes me both mentally and physically. Happens every time hahaha. I want to feel the need to workout all the time and keep fit. Because I know what to expect, I am really hoping this round will be mine.
